The Oxford Mail is having a good day - there’s lots of bad news for my part of Oxford (they have a terrible website, so I can’t find the links):

“The number of teenagers using Oxford’s family planning service has slumped by nearly 50 per cent since it moved from Cowley Road to the city centre.”

So what is the PCT going to do? Close the satellite services on Barton and Rose Hill estates and replace them with school-based services. That’s great that they’re running school services, but when most young mums were not really attending school before they got pregnant, how’s that going to help tohose at most risk of teenage pregnancy?

And the school results are out, finally. The average percentage of young people getting 5 A*-C grades in England? 57.1%. In Oxfordshire LEA? 54.4%. In my local school, Peers, now in special measures? 20%.

The Mail is having a good day, apart from seeming to have developed a worrying obsession with the minutiae of my everyday activites. Their “Corridor of Power” column a couple of weeks made the stunning expose that I ate a bannana during Executive Board (shock! horror!) and today takes me to task for not updating my ‘blog - apparently this means that I haven’t done anything since October 13th….

I’m waiting for them to start lurking around my dustbins looking for proof that I don’t recycle or something….

I read that this morning and thought it was a bit harsh! Especially as the writer doesn’t seem to grasp the concept of a blog - he called it a “blogspot” - and seemed to think updating it was a bit of an ego trip.

Well, thats typical of the Mail’s political reporting - if you don’t update a ‘blog, you’re lazy and aren’t doing anything - if you do update it, then you’re on an ego trip!

Right, I’ll stop whingeing now. :)
