International Women’s Day celebrations
Women MPs laying wreaths at the statue of Emmeline Pankhurst - the song they sung is brilliant, anyone want to join me in a resounding chorus?
To the tune of the Battle Hymn of the Republic, or if you prefer “He jumped from forty thousand feet without a parachute”:
My eyes have seen the women in the Commons and the Lords
They have tramped out the prejudice that was so long ignored
They have lit the torch of liberty and justice is restored
Their truth is marching on.
Glory, glory, hallelujah etc

Unfortunately, it would appear that the MPs (and others) participating in the singsong were breaking the new licensing laws by participating in the event. The miscreants, of course, include Tessa Jowell, who helped get the bill through. Listen to the Today programme’s report on the subject at http://www.bbc.co.uk/radio4/today/listenagain/ram/today3_license_20060317.ram
for further and better particulars of the offence.
Give ‘em all ASBOs. That’ll learn ‘em.
