Basically people have been creating links to the site and using those terms as the label, often to influence a search for those terms. One of the best known ones is &lt;a href="http://www.google.com/search?sourceid=navclient&#38;ie=UTF-8&#38;rls=GEUA,GEUA:2005-34,GEUA:en&#38;q=miserable+failure" rel="nofollow"&gt;Miserable failure&lt;/a&gt; which first brings up &lt;a href="http://www.whitehouse.gov/president/gwbbio.html" rel="nofollow"&gt;the official White House biography of George W. Bush&lt;/a&gt;.

Sometimes this is done as a joke, though others do try to boost the chances of a particular site to come up, especially when it's newly established or an ancient site is causing problems.
