Commander-in-chief

I’ve been waiting to see when this US show with Geena Davies as an accidental President will make it to the UK. I got all excited when there were ads in Heat this week (yeah, I know - long train journey, in my defence) saying it would be on next Tuesday on ABC1 at 9pm, conveniently forgetting that ABC1 is only on Freeview until 6pm or thereabouts. Oh well. Digital Spy say it’s coming to More4 in the West Wing’s slot later this year, so that will be more evenings in front of the telly, then.

Update: interesting article in today’s Times about the show.

Thank God for that. I’ve never met you and yet I found myself thinking that reading Heat is not something I can imagine you doing. I know that feeling. In my job, during quiet moments and when all the chores have been done I browse through the newspapers in front of me. You know it’s a long quiet moment when I start looking at The Daily Mail and The Express.
Anyway, looks like an interesting series, I’ll keep an eye out for it!

Don’t get yourself too warmed up for Commander-in-Chief - it isn’t a patch on the West Wing, sadly. It isn’t terrible and the concept of a woman POTUS is an interesting one (gotta get the public warmed up for Hillary/Condi in 2008), but West Wing set the bar VERY high.

The characterisation is too simply drawn and the plots too simplistic, from what I’ve seen so far. A bit of fun, perhaps, but seems to lack the edge (and the humour) of the West Wing.

Damn, but we’ve been spoiled these past seven seasons.

Oh well. Something is better than nothing…

It’s being repeated on ABC1 at 2pm one day this week (probably Friday… or maybe Thursday - check the Radio Times), so you should be able to catch it.

Thanks Gregg - but unfortunately I’m still working-for-a-living gal, so I’ll probably miss it anyway.

I wasn’t overly impressed - some funny bits but a bit cheesy. Not a patch on any of the really good US drama around at the moment (WW, Law & Order, House, Grey’s Anatomy etc). Looks a bit “Hallmark” to me, if you get my drift.
I will, however, be catching it weekly via Sky+
