Well done, Antonia! Pity for Labour about the national results… but I think any party in an unassailable position is A Bad Thing in general and lets them become complacent. I’m from Durham and the sickening levels of corruption which went on in seats which were essentially rotten boroughs- the dirtiest deals being done- make me very sceptical of “safe seats.

Hope you have fun in Rose Hill. My boyfriend lived there last year in the University Mansion and it’s the most bizzare split area between Rose Hill and Iffley Village. Almost Apartheid-esque! I hope you can work on integrating the communities a little…

Well done! Lucky Rose Hill and Iffley ward, they’ve got themselves an excellent new Councillor.

Congrats, Antonia. Remember that you work for the people of Rose Hill and Iffley, rather than for the Labour party machine, and I’m sure you’ll do a great job.

Oxfordfemme: having good relations with one’s neighbours is always a good thing. The wording of your comment suggests that you think that there’s some actual significance to the boundary of a council ward (so that splits within a ward are worse than splits between wards). If that was what you meant to imply, I find that opinion bizarre.

Sam - you’re right, of course, though there isn’t really a “machine” as such in Oxford, and we differ with the national party in many respects anyway.

    Good one!

    Congratulations!

Will we see you running for Westminster again in 2009-8-7?

Well done, and almost 50% of the vote as well :)

Once all the champagne has dried up, remember there’s lots of work to be done. I hope you help tackle the litter problems and general poor environment of the Rosehill Area. Make our votes count. We’re only 36% of the population but we care!

Congratulations Antonia - Fantastic to see two of my old NUS comrades get elected on the same night - Councillor Harper-Penman now sits for Labour in Tower Hamlets.

    Congratulations to Cllr Bance!…

If you’ve been reading Antonia’s blog, then you probably know that she won her council election for Rose Hill and Iffley yesterday. Naturally, I’m over the moon and I know she’ll be an excellent represenative for the ward (if yo…

Bloody hell! I thought you said you were a paper candidate… well done. I think you will do a good job.

Well Done! I’ve been up in Preston and Manchester, Labour managed net gains there! The Tories will find it hard to win a GE without the North of England.

  25. Andrew | 7 May 2006 6:12 pm

    Congrats!

  26. Emma | 7 May 2006 10:31 pm

“The Tories will find it hard to win a GE without the North of England.”

We’ll manage! We managed before without the support of the celtic numbskulls and we’ll manage without Geordieland and the other left-wing whingers.

  29. Paul Burgin | 11 May 2006 10:23 am

You know C4, it’s comments like that that help ensure that you don’t get many votes up North! It also shows a cynical view of the electorate in general.

  30. C4 | 11 May 2006 11:34 pm

Government is not about being popular, it is about doing what is RIGHT!

  31. Paul Burgin | 12 May 2006 8:48 am

But you have to be popular to get elected!
