I’m not quite sure why you posted that quote unless it was to point up the appalling standards reached under government-controlled ‘Edukashun’ for which our ‘going, going, gone’ prime minister is so proud.

It can’t have been for the gist of her diatribe which, though extreme, was unexceptional.

I saw a forum post this morning that was almost as amusing:

tony blair and the labout government have totally fucked up this war on terrorism.
the real threat is the fucking gypsy scumbags that invade public spaces, set up fun fairs as a semi-legitimate smoke screen while sendin their filthy inbred offspring off into the urban jungle to stick clown posters all over the place, rob old ladies and inpregnate the lonely chubby girls before whiskin them off a la ‘dave’ stylee to join their pikey circus.

what are our boys doin ova in iraq when they should be torchin the gypsy scumbag caravans to the ground, shootin the hillbilly mums and dad and protectin us from the diseases they spread
    tony blair out now!

    Frightening eh?

No, Chris, not “frightening” nor “amusing”, just the ill-educated fury of an ordinary person whose mortgaged home and family have been threatened and whose expectations that a *Labour* government would be on their side have obviously been dashed.

Still, not a problem for people whose homes are in the smarter parts of Guildford and thus unlikely to be devalued by 50% because of a gypsy encampment just down the road.

You are, I note, an il-Lib-non-Dem as well as a smug prat!

I think, in the cooler light of day, that I should withdraw the word “prat”. Not that it is excessive, in fact I am amazed at my restraint following a lively supper and a hefty shot of Bushmills, but on the whole it is better not to call people rude names. The sentiments, however, remain.

I empathise with the quoted comments in the original post, though the spelling and some of the more extreme comments are terrible.

It’s sad that teenage girls see getting pregnant as a career option.I think it says something about how class divided Britain remains.
Of course as the child gets older the mother is put under a lot of pressure to take up paid employment.
And for the pretty Duff Labour supporter,I once saw some Egyptian gypsies in the Sinai. Not everyone lives in a semi-detached.

    Antonia,

Good as your blog is, I don’t think that you should use it to publish comments containing bizarre non-sequitur viewpoints by people unless you are sure that they are real and not just spoofs.

For example, I’m sure that there can’t be anyone as self-righteous or opportunistic as the person using the ‘David Duff’ pseudonym.

After reading some of the comments left by other young single mothers I can almost understand how people can harbour such ignorant perceptions involving single mothers. I want to put forward a different perspective all together. I personally had my daughter at a very young age. I was 16. I have maintained a job and education starting when my daughter turned 6 months old. I have a degree and I am now enjoying taking my first steps onto the career ladder. I have cleaned toilets, waited on people, had numerous bar jobs and worked in a number of other jobs that have often been poorly paid. I have done all this whilst, achieving a degree and looking after my daughter (with the help of my wonderful mother and father), I have never asked the nation for a penny and have worked for everything I own. I am not asking to be congratulated for this as many people do what I do with or without children. What I am trying to say is it is unfair to label all single mothers as the same, we are all different and more importantly we are people. I am an extremely capable individual, I am not advocating single motherhood but I would like to say this. I have a wonderful little angel who everyday spurs me on to do better for her and myself. She is my inspiration and my joy and I am very lucky to have her. I wish people would realise that for the sake of making a single mistake (for want of a better word) I don’t believe it is necessary to expect young girls to pay for the rest of their lives by being labelled and subjected to hideous personal comments about their financial circumstances, sexual behaviour and capablities as a mother. I am a very capable mother and I do everything I can to ensure my child has not only a decent childhood but a very good one. Certain people ought to realise that not every single mother is ill educated, incapable mothers or sitting on their backsides in council flats waiting for their benifits.
