Surprisingly thoughtful article on teenage mums
I groaned at the front page of this week’s Sunday Times magazine, emblazoned with a picture of a naked pregnant woman, and the the text:
This is Aimee, eight months pregnant and only 15 years old. She is part of Britain’s epidemic of gymslip mothers. Underage sex, teenage motherhood and welfare dependent lifestyles are a national scandal. Are we right to be so outraged?
But Lesley White, who went and spent time with several young mums and their families in London and Reading, delivers a thoughtful and balanced article, which acknowledges that motherhood isn’t the worst thing to happen to many young women, without glossing over the real difficulties. Definitely worth a read in full.

no people shouldnt be outraged at teenage mothers. an age limit on sex is pointless as it is that persons choice to do as they please when inlove. And then people who get pregnant are big enough to deal with their mistakes and not get rid ov them from pressure of society. i think teenage mums are looked upon as slutish and that is very unfair as being a pregnant now myself i know how this feels..although there is alot of people willing to help out there. i know there are sum teenagers out ther who do get pregnant because they think they wilgeta house and money etc but it is not that easy andi dont think the rest of us should get roped in to that crowd
