Letter to the Oxford Mail re: lesbian and gay rights7 July 2004 Dear Editor, Re: Candidate to campaign for gay rights (7th July 2004) Your article on my selection concentrated on my opinions on gay rights. I’m writing to make the point that in the run-up to the General Election, I will be campaigning on the full range of issues that affect people living in Oxford, Abingdon and Kidlington. The next general election will be fought on the need to build more affordable housing around Oxford, on issues of public transport, on continuing to improve our schools and hospitals, on Labour’s pledge to end child poverty in a generation. It will be fought in a country enjoying a period of high employment and a stable economy, due to the policies of the Labour Government. At the next election, the Tories will argue that investing in public services has failed and the Lib Dems will make promises they know they’ll never have to deliver. As a socialist, I believe that only Labour can continue to build equality and prosperity for the many, not just for the privileged few. Over the coming months, I’m looking forward to discussing all these issues and many more with people living in Oxford West and Abingdon.
Yours,
2 Prestwich Place
