Labour select Antonia Bance as prospective parliamentary candidate to contest Oxford West and Abingdon

Local activist Antonia Bance will contest Oxford West and Abingdon for Labour in the next General Election. Antonia was selected by a majority of Labour Party members living in Oxford, Kidlington and Abingdon.

Antonia Bance is 24 years old and works as a campaigns officer for a women’s charity. She grew up in South London, but has been in Oxford for five years. She started her involvement in politics as Vice President (Women) at Oxford University Student Union in 2001. Antonia currently lives in West Oxford with her partner, Jo.

Commenting on her selection, Antonia said:
"I’m really pleased to be given the opportunity to the contest Oxford West and Abingdon for the Labour Party. As a socialist, I am proud of what this Labour government has done over the last seven years to improve the lives of poor and excluded people, working hard for local communities, delivering jobs, safer streets and high quality public services for everyone. Only Labour can continue to build equality and prosperity for the many, not just for the privileged few.”

Constituency Labour Party Secretary Oscar Van Nooijen said:
“Antonia is a very experienced campaigner who would make an excellent and hard-working local MP. At the General Election, voters in Oxford West and Abingdon will have a clear choice – more empty promises from the Liberal Democrats or a hard-working Labour MP who will deliver for them.”
