Rose Hill and Iffley ward

I was elected in May 2006 to represent Rose Hill and Iffley ward for the Labour party on Oxford City Council. My fellow city councillor for Rose Hill (also Labour) is Ed Turner.

As well as being a ward councillor, I’m also an opposition member of the executive board of the city council without portfolio: as no party has an outright majority of councillors (although Labour have the largest single group), the Liberal Democrats are running the council from a minority administration, and so there are two Labour and one Green seat on the EB. I hold one of the Labour seats.

The ward
Rose Hill and Iffley ward, created in 2002, is a ward with several distinct communities. There’s Rose Hill estate, built in stages in the thirties, forties and seventies, where about half the electorate live. The estate is deprived both by Oxfordshire and national standards, but hopefully with the redevelopment of the Orlit pre-fab houses and associated regeneration, things are getting better. Then there’s Iffley village, just down the hill, next to the river Thames. Iffley village is one of the picturesque places where you can’t quite believe you’re still in the city, and the noted Norman church of St Mary is always worth a visit. Between the two areas is what the estate agents call Iffley Borders, which is a much more suburban part of the ward, and which lacks a distinct community feel, though it contains the main shopping parade.

About this site
I hope you’ll find what you’re looking for from the links in the side menu. I’ve tried to create a space to keep local residents informed about what I do, and somewhere where they can find out about what’s going on in their community. If you think there’s something that I’ve missed that should be on the site, or if you”ve got any other questions for me, please drop me an email.
