Get involved - local meetings

South-east area committee
Oxford City Council’s south-east area committee meets every month. It’s made up of the city councillors for Rose Hill and Iffley, Littlemore and Blackbird Leys, plus parish and county councillors for our area. The idea is that some local issues can be discussed and decided locally by people from the area, rather than everything being done at the town hall.
South-east area committee discusses and decides on planning applications in our area, improvements to parks and play areas and allocating city council money to local community groups. Representatives from the police, streetwardens, streetscene and NHS usually come along to answer questions.
Area committee meetings are public, and there is time at the start of each meeting for members of the public to speak. All you need to do is turn up and fill in a speakers’ form. Even if the city council is unable to help you directly, the committee will know who might be able to, and can apply pressure on your behalf. You can find out more at www.oxford.gov.uk/southeast.
Rose Hill tenants’ and residents association
Rose Hill RTA meets every six weeks at 7.30pm at the Rose Hill Community Centre. It’s a forum for people who live on Rose Hill estate (owner-occupiers, private tenants, Oxford city and housing association tenants) to discuss what’s happening on the estate and ask questions of the estate manager, streetwardens and local police. The chair of the Rose Hill RTA is John Green. Email Antonia if you’d like to get involved.
Rose Hill Regeneration Partnership
The RHRP enables the different projects contributing to the social, economic and environmental regeneration of Rose Hill estate to come together. It’s made up of local residents and professionals who work on the estate, such as the police, streetwardens, Sure Start and the advice centre. The partnership delegates the day-to-day work to a smaller group who meet at the community centre every couple of months, called the Rose Hill Regeneration Partnership Board. If you’d like to get involved in regenerating Rose Hill estate (residents of the estate only), please email the chair, Wendy Spray at OCHA (remove NOSPAM) or call Dannah Gayle, the secretary on 07920 211 402.
Rose Hill, Iffley and Littlemore neighbourhood action group
The steering group for the brand new neighbourhood policing initiative meets every month or thereabouts at Rose Hill Community Centre. It’s made up of the local police, councillors, representatives from other organisations working on Rose Hill and the surrounding area, and local residents. It’s a doing group, not a talking shop. We’re looking for local residents who want to make the estate a safer place to live to get involved - email Antonia if you’re interested. The website for the Rose Hill NAG is here.
Villiers Neighbourhood Watch
Villiers Neighbourhood Watch is the local neighbourhood watch for the Rose Hill main road area of the ward. It meets every two months to discuss issues of concern. To join Villiers Neighbourhood Watch, get in touch with Mike Knibbs.
Friends of Iffley Village
FOIV is a local society and residents’ association for people who live in Iffley village, the older part of the ward near the river Thames. The chair is Patrick Lawrence.
